Three Positive Shifts for Better Communication with Your Teen

It's a pretty normal desire as a parent to want our children to be happy. While often well intentioned, not allowing our children to experience emotions that are outside of "happy" can create self-doubt and insecurity. On today's podcast coach Lindsay Law gives three shifts parents can make in their communication so that  their teens feel validated and accepted in their emotions. And as with most coaching tools, these shifts will not only increase a teens confidence but a parent's confidence as well.

Creating Compassion and Understanding For Menopausal Changes

For most of us, we probably created a life plan when we were young that included getting a higher education or advanced skill, acquiring a job, getting married, and having children. After those things were accomplished, it’s rare many of us had a plan beyond that. But life does continue after we have children and that includes a life with changing hormones and for every woman a journey through the stages of menopause.   Coach Candy Wright is on a mission to help women go through these stages of menopause with more grace and understanding by normalizing this natural transition for women.

The Connectedness of Buddhism and Christianity

In Moses 3:5 we read,   “For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth.”   This is a profound and beautiful truth we hold in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We know God knew us and created us spiritually before we were created physically. And yet, even knowing that truth we can find it hard to tap into the wisdom already within us through our spiritual DNA.   Coach Hyo North is on the podcast talking about how learning the way Buddhism accesses this spiritual being within our physical body has helped her draw closer to God and her Savior Jesus Christ.

The Enneagram

In a world that is constantly telling you that you need to be a certain way it can be hard to know who you really are and what your true personality is. Coach Heather Fillmore helps her clients determine for themselves who they are by coming to understand and examine their personalities. Heather is a big believer in the Enneagram test. While she coaches Enneagram 9’s specifically, she talks on the podcast today about the characteristics of each number and how understanding who you are can really free yourself from shame and put you in a place of coming to accept who you are and then choosing to change if you want.

The Importance of Sharing Your Talents

God has blessed each of us with unique and specific talents and abilities that He not only expects us to use but needs us to use so that we can continue to grow and become who He sent us to earth to be. All too often as mothers we can bury those talents for the sake of others but then are we just like the servant in the parable that buried his talent only to have it taken away? Coach Amber Haider feels that God doesn’t send us women here to be mothers and once that role is over then to use our talents. Our talents need to be used and cultivated throughout our whole lives. Mothers and women need to remember that their needs and desires are just as important as anyone else’s in their family.

What Success As a Parent Really Looks Like

As parents it's natural to want our children to choose certain things or make particular choices so that they can have a certain outcome. But all too often we really want them to do that so we can appear a certain way as a parent and we can feel like we were successful in our parenting role.  Releasing our children of certain expectations doesn’t stop once they leave our home or reach the age of adulthood. Coach Tiffany Rhoton doesn’t feel like expectations are bad but they can be damaging to the parent child relationship if we base our relationship and love on those expectations being met. We want our kids to buy into their choices because they want to or not do something, not because they feel they have to be a certain way to make us feel better or gain our love and acceptance. Tiffany cannot stress enough the importance of basing your success as a parent on what you can control and then allowing your young adult children to make their own decisions. Hard to do, but so important for your children’s development and your relationship with them.

The Importance of Learning What God Thinks About Your Marriage

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we value the marriage relationship and feel that it is the most important relationship we have here on earth. We have revealed doctrine on the eternal nature of marriages and how the sealing ordinance of marriage is a necessary part of our eternal progression.    Being that marriage is ordained by God it’s safe to say that He feels strongly about it and probably has a lot of thoughts on what makes a good marriage and what we need to be doing in our marriages to make them a success. Marriage coach Jane Copier believes that we can get so much more out of our marriages by knowing what our Heavenly Father wants for us in this relationship and we need to be making the effort of bringing God’s thoughts into our thoughts and into our marriages.

The Pause Principle

Just like the seasons change as the earth moves around the sun, our lives also have seasons that change as we grow older and pass through different phases of our lives. While we are each aware of those seasons, the change from one season to another can often be difficult and hard to navigate. Coach Jill Pack helps women of faith make the transition from one season to the next by taking them through a process called the “Pause Principle”. She discusses what this is and how it works on the podcast today.
