The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah became so incredibly wicked that the Lord decided to destroy them with fire. Lot, who lived just outside of Sodom, was warned about it by an angel beforehand who said, “Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters . . . lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.” We could understand this as a command to physically leave the city and avoid having their bodies consumed by the coming fire.
It's one of the more difficult stories in the Old Testament. Why would God command Abraham to sacrifice his son? What can I learn from this story and what does it have to do with my own life? The bottom line is that sometimes we are asked to do difficult things in order to learn something about ourselves.
To keep the Abrahamic Covenant, to be different than the world and to have the Spirit of the Lord, we need to be very cautious in our homes and in our personal lives to not even except a thread of what the world has to offer.
