An old friend of Benjamin Franklin always regretted not having asked the founding father if he could taxidermize his body. He thought Franklin might have agreed, and then maybe George Washington might have also followed suit. But (maybe to our collective relief) what we do have, instead, as a tangible reminder of our first president are several collections of cuttings from his hair. In the days before photography, a lock of hair might be the only proof that a person had access to a notable man like Washington.

What Success As a Parent Really Looks Like

As parents it's natural to want our children to choose certain things or make particular choices so that they can have a certain outcome. But all too often we really want them to do that so we can appear a certain way as a parent and we can feel like we were successful in our parenting role.  Releasing our children of certain expectations doesn’t stop once they leave our home or reach the age of adulthood. Coach Tiffany Rhoton doesn’t feel like expectations are bad but they can be damaging to the parent child relationship if we base our relationship and love on those expectations being met. We want our kids to buy into their choices because they want to or not do something, not because they feel they have to be a certain way to make us feel better or gain our love and acceptance. Tiffany cannot stress enough the importance of basing your success as a parent on what you can control and then allowing your young adult children to make their own decisions. Hard to do, but so important for your children’s development and your relationship with them.

Ruth; 1 Samuel 1–3

In this episode we'll discuss the Book of Ruth, which is the story of Ruth and Naomi and one of only two books in the Old Testament that is named for a woman. We'll talk about how one of the core lessons in Ruth's life is the principle of kindness. We'll review the saga of Ruth and Naomi, how they crossed paths with Boaz (who showed them kindness), and how they eventually became part of the ancestry of Jesus Christ. We'll also discuss how daily acts of kindness can have a positive impact on mental health issues.
