A Passion for the Past

"The past is never dead," wrote William Faulkner. "It's not even past." Ron Coddington was a young boy at a flea market one Saturday, when he stumbled on a book of Civil War-era photos and felt his world shift beneath his feet. The boy's passion deepened as he grew to adulthood, maturing into a deeply felt obligation to uncover these stories. Many photos of the time were preserved on calling cards ("cartes de visite") that people would hand out to others, much like the profile pictures we post on social media today.

The Importance of Sharing Your Talents

God has blessed each of us with unique and specific talents and abilities that He not only expects us to use but needs us to use so that we can continue to grow and become who He sent us to earth to be. All too often as mothers we can bury those talents for the sake of others but then are we just like the servant in the parable that buried his talent only to have it taken away? Coach Amber Haider feels that God doesn’t send us women here to be mothers and once that role is over then to use our talents. Our talents need to be used and cultivated throughout our whole lives. Mothers and women need to remember that their needs and desires are just as important as anyone else’s in their family.

1 Samuel 8–10; 13; 15–18

In this episode we'll discuss the beginning of the story of David, king of Israel. We'll talk about the process of him getting chosen as king and how Samuel the prophet had to look for qualities beyond the physical. We'll talk about Goliath's challenge of Israel's armies, David's intentions to defeat him, and the ultimate resolution to that event. We will discuss the personal challenges we face in our lives, our own Goliath's, and how with faith and determination we can conquer as well. We'll also talk about President Nelson's recent invitation to "seek and expect miracles" and how that can help us move forward.
