Can the news be trusted? Americans aren’t too sure. What happens when we start to see journalists as enemies, rather than allies, of democracy and truth? Barely a third of Americans say they have even a "fair amount" of trust in the press, according to Gallup polls. They think mainstream media is biased, or sloppy. Are they right? In this podcast episode, we’ll discuss the role of journalism in democracy, what journalists are doing to create change on local and national levels, and what we can do to become more informed consumers when evaluating news sources.

In this episode we'll talk about the Books of Amos and Obadiah. They were both prophets but preached to different populations and also lived about two hundred years apart from one another. We'll talk about the importance of prophets, how their counsel can help us avoid difficult, and how we can find answers to our personal problems by following their teachings. We'll also talk about the concept of being "saviors on Mount Zion" and how this relates to supporting those with difficulties, including mental health trials. We will discuss how doing for others, what they can't do for themselves, is at the heart of Christlike service and behavior.

And it’s remarkably common for child sexual abuse to go undisclosed for decades: One study showed that the average age at the time of reporting child sex abuse was 52 years old.

An Unorthodox, Reluctant Leader

Loren Spendlove served as a young missionary in Brazil, then found himself speaking Portuguese again as a missionary couple with his wife Tina—this time in Mozambique. They later returned to Mozambique as mission leaders. Loren and Tina served as missionaries again in Brazil and as Kennedy Center teachers in Guangzhou, China, and Loren served as a branch president in Bethlehem, Palestine. Loren has an MA in Jewish Studies from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a PhD in Education, an MBA, and is a Certified Management Accountant and Certified in Financial Management.
